Privacy Policy

Last updated 9 October 2026

This policy explains what personal data SlotBrowser collects, why, who we share it with, and your rights. SlotBrowser handles sensitive details such as your driving licence number, so we have tried to be specific.

1. Who we are

SlotBrowser Ltd ("we", "us"), a company registered in the United Kingdom (company number [COMPANY NUMBER], registered office [REGISTERED OFFICE ADDRESS]), is the controller of the personal data described in this policy. We run SlotBrowser, a service that helps learner drivers find a slot for their practical driving test.

Contact us about your data at [email protected].

2. What we collect

Information you give us:

  • Account details: your first name, email address, mobile number and a password (stored in hashed form, never in plain text).
  • Your search settings: your postcode, chosen test centres and date range.
  • Your driving licence number and, where needed, your theory test pass certificate number, which are used to run your search and booking session.
  • Extra phone numbers you ask us to alert. Please only add a number if its owner has agreed.
  • Messages you send us through the contact form or by email.

Information created when you use the service:

  • Booking records: the test centre, date, time and booking reference of a booking you complete, and how many searches and attempts it took.
  • Wallet and payment records: deposits you make, our charges, refunds, the bank transfer reference you use, and the sender name shown on your bank payment.
  • Notification records: the alerts we send you, and your browser's push notification address if you switch push alerts on.
  • Technical information: such as your IP address and device and browser details, which our servers record for security and to keep the service running.

Information from others: we read bank payment notification emails so that we can match your transfer to your wallet. These show the amount, reference and sender name.

3. How we use it, and our legal basis

  • To provide the service you asked for (contract): creating your account, running your browser session and search, entering your details into the booking service for you, alerting you when a slot is available, and handling your wallet, charges and refunds.
  • To keep the service secure and prevent misuse (our legitimate interests): detecting fraud and abuse, fixing faults, and protecting our systems.
  • To meet our legal obligations: for example keeping financial records, and responding to lawful requests.
  • To answer your messages and give support (legitimate interests and contract).
  • To send optional notifications, such as browser push alerts, only if you agree (consent). You can switch these off at any time.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it to make decisions that have legal effects on you by automated means.

4. Who we share it with

We use these types of providers to run SlotBrowser. They process data on our behalf and only for those purposes:

  • Hosting and infrastructure providers, which store our database and run our servers.
  • Messaging providers (Twilio and ClickSend), which send our SMS alerts and make our alert calls to your phone numbers.
  • An email delivery provider, which sends our verification and account emails.
  • Network (proxy) providers. Your browser session connects to the booking service through these networks, so information sent in your session, such as the details entered into the booking service, passes through them.
  • Image-recognition providers (Google and OpenAI), which read images of the verification checks shown by the booking service. We send them the check image, not your account details.
  • Cloudflare, which stores files we upload and helps protect our site.
  • Google, whose email service we use to read bank payment notifications.
  • A messaging service we use for internal team alerts (for example about completed bookings).
  • A card payments provider, if we offer card payments.

We may also share data if the law requires it, to protect our rights or other people's safety, or in connection with a sale of our business. We share the details you enter into the DVSA booking service with the DVSA, because completing your booking does that. The DVSA is responsible for how it handles that information.

5. Transfers outside the UK

Some of our providers, for example messaging and image-recognition services, are based outside the UK, including in the United States. Where we transfer personal data outside the UK, we make sure there are appropriate safeguards in place, such as an adequacy decision or approved standard contractual terms.

6. How long we keep it

  • Your driving licence and theory pass numbers are kept only to run your search and booking session, and are removed when the session is deleted or completed.
  • Your account details are kept while your account is open. If you ask us to close it, we delete or anonymise them, except where we need to keep some information (see below).
  • Wallet, payment and booking records are kept for at least six years, because the law requires us to keep financial records.
  • Contact messages are kept for as long as needed to deal with your query and for a reasonable time afterwards in case you come back to us.
  • Server and security logs are kept for a short period and then deleted.

7. Keeping your data safe

We protect your data with measures including encrypted connections, hashed passwords, access controls and monitoring. No system is completely secure, so please use a strong password that you do not use anywhere else, and tell us straight away if you think your account has been misused.

8. Cookies

We use cookies and similar storage that are essential to the site, such as keeping you signed in and remembering your light or dark setting and your cookie choice. We only use optional cookies, for example for analytics, if you accept them in the cookie banner, and you can change your choice at any time by clearing your browser storage.

9. Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • be told how we use your data, and ask for a copy of it;
  • have inaccurate data corrected;
  • ask us to delete your data, or restrict how we use it, in some circumstances;
  • object to processing that relies on our legitimate interests;
  • ask for your data in a portable format;
  • withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on it.

To use these rights, email [email protected]. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk, helpline 0303 123 1113). We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.

10. Children

SlotBrowser is for people who are old enough to take the practical driving test. It is not directed at anyone under 17.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version here with a new date, and tell you by email if the changes are important. Our Terms of Service explain the other terms of using SlotBrowser.
