How to Check, Change or Cancel Your Driving Test Booking
Find out what you need to view, change or cancel your booked practical driving test, and what counts towards your two-change limit.
By the SlotBrowser team · Last reviewed
Once your practical test is booked, you will sometimes need to look it up, move it or cancel it. Here is how that works and what to bear in mind.
What you need
To manage a booking you generally need your driving licence number and your booking reference, which is in your confirmation email. Keep that email safe.
Where to do it
Use the official service on GOV.UK. Be careful with search results: only enter your licence and booking details on a service you trust. See booking scams.
You must do it yourself
Since 12 May 2026 only the learner can view, change or cancel a booking. Read our guide to why you must book your own test.
What counts as a change
Moving to another date, time or centre uses one of your two changes. Updating contact details, or adding or removing your instructor's reference number, does not.
Cancelling
Cancel at least 10 full working days before the test to get your fee back. See cancelling a driving test.
Good habits
- Save the confirmation email and note your booking reference.
- Keep your contact details up to date so you can be reached if your test is moved.
- Write down your refund deadline.
If you cannot find your booking reference
Search your email, including spam and junk folders, for the confirmation message from when you booked. The booking reference is in it. If you cannot find it, check the official service on GOV.UK for how to recover it, and avoid third-party sites that offer to find it for you.
Before you change anything
- Check how many of your two changes you have used.
- Check your refund deadline, in case you may end up cancelling.
- Check your theory pass covers the new date.
- Tell your instructor if the new date changes their availability.
After you change or cancel
Always look for a new confirmation email, and keep it. If you do not receive one, check the booking again on the official service instead of assuming it worked.
